Do I need to list all drivers on my Car Insurance?

Yes, all drivers who you expect will repeatedly drive your car should be listed, apart from learner drivers who are not required to be listed. Listing additional drivers can affect the price you pay for your insurance and if the additional driver is inexperienced or under 25 years old, an extra excess of $400 may apply in addition to any other excess. Although learner drivers do not need to be listed, in the event they are driving, using or in charge of your vehicle (and at-fault) at the time of an incident, the relevant additional age or inexperienced driver excess will apply. What do I do if I have an accident?

We understand being involved in an accident can be a stressful experience. That’s why we’ve created a step by step guide to help you deal with it. Remember you can call us for help 24 hours a day on 13 14 46 . Make sure everyone is safe. In an emergency call 000 for police and ambulance assistance, for example if there’s major damage, a person is injured or debris is blocking the road. You can also call 000 if anyone involved has failed to exchange details. Ensure you are in a safe location away from traffic. If possible, try to prevent further loss or damage by moving your car off the road and putting on your hazard lights. Record the following details: date, time and location of the accident registration number, full name, address, contact number and insurance details of any drivers involved name, address and phone number of any witnesses Report the incident to the authorities. In an emergency call 000 . For non-emergency police assistance, for example if there’s minor damage and no-one is injured: If you are in Victoria, contact your local police station. For all other states, contact the Police Assistance line on 131 444 . Fill out an online claims form or contact on our claims-dedicated number, 13 14 46 us as soon as possible with details of the accident. We can help arrange the towing of your vehicle if required. Can I choose my own repairer?

You can leave it with GIO to take care of everything when arranging for the repair of your car. However, if you prefer to, you can choose your own repairer to complete the job. If you do this, you need to obtain a quote from your repairer. After you obtain a quote from your repairer, we will need to assess your car at one of our preferred repairers. The repairs will be authorised if your repairer’s assessed quote meets industry standards and will result in your car being repaired safely and in a cost effective manner. Am I covered for windscreen repair or replacement?

GIO Platinum Car Insurance automatically includes windscreen and window glass cover. For our Comprehensive level of cover, windscreen and window glass cover can be added as an option for an additional cost. If an incident occurs that is covered by your policy and only your windscreen or window glass is damaged (including your sun roof), we’ll help cover the cost to repair or replace it without you having to pay an excess for the first claim in the period of insurance.
