No claim bonus
A no claim bonus is a discount that rewards you for your good claims history. For every year that you don't make an excess payable claim, we'll give you a discount on next year's premium up to a maximum of 60%.
Your excess
You can choose to lower your premium by increasing your excess within a range we set. This means your premium will be cheaper, but you’ll face higher out-of-pocket costs in the event of a claim. It’s up to you to decide on a balance that suits your needs.
Payment frequency
If you pay your premiums annually, you’ll pay less than if you were to pay in monthly instalments for the same period.

Terms and conditions
Combine any 3 or more eligible policies with GIO and we’ll give you a 10% multi-policy discount. Eligible policies are GIO Home, Contents, Landlord, Car, Motorcycle, Caravan (including trailer) and Boat. A GIO NSW CTP Insurance policy or GIO ACT MAI Insurance policy will count as an eligible policy, but the premium for these policies cannot be discounted.
1. To qualify for the 10% multi-policy discount (the MPD) you must have 3 or more eligible paid personal insurance policies with AAI Limited trading as GIO. There must be a common mailing address and the person(s) seeking the discount must be nominated as an insured with the same name and date of birth on each eligible policy.
2. The eligible policies to qualify for the MPD are GIO Home, Contents, Landlord, Car, Motorcycle, Caravan (including trailer), and Boat.
3. GIO NSW CTP or GIO ACT MAI Insurance count as eligible policies, but you will not receive the MPD on the CTP or MAI Insurance premium as these cannot be discounted due to regulatory requirements. Discounts not applicable to Roadside Assist, GIO Home Assist, Excess-free Glass or Domestic Workers Compensation optional cover(s).
4. Subject to the exception in 5, if you take out a new policy which means you then qualify for the MPD, the MPD will apply to that policy immediately but on your other existing eligible policies, the MPD applies from the next renewal date after you qualify, provided you still qualify.
5. Notwithstanding 4, if you become eligible for the MPD around the time your other policies are due for renewal, the MPD may not have been applied to the renewing policies because the renewals were generated before you were eligible for MPD. Please contact us if you believe you are eligible for the MPD on your renewal but it is not shown on your certificate of insurance.
6. If you’re eligible, the discount is applied to the premium prior to taxes and charges being added. Should other discounts (in addition to the MPD) be applicable, then we will apply each further discount to the already discounted premium.
GIO reserves the right to vary or discontinue our MPD at any time and without notice.
Legal liability cover
Provides up to $10 million to pay compensation for death or injury to other people, or damage to their property. For example, if someone's injured falling over on your boat, which you’re held legally liable for, we cover money paid to the victim as compensation including all associated legal costs up to $10 million.
Salvage and removal costs
If you’re legally liable for the costs of salvaging or removing your stranded, sunk or burnt boat, we’ll pay the reasonable costs including legal fees that we’ve agreed to pay, up to $10 million, to salvage and remove it.
Substitute boat insurance
Gives automatic third party insurance for a substitute boat provided to you for up to 14 days when yours is with a repairer.
Pollution by oil, fuel or waste
Covers costs to deal with accidental pollution from your boat that you’re found legally liable for, up to $250,000, including legal costs.
Fatal injury
If your boat suffers loss or damage and you or the operator of your boat is killed we’ll pay $5,000 to the executor of one person’s estate.
Road towing costs
When your boat needs to be repaired, we pay the reasonable costs, up to $1,000, of towing your boat by road, to the nearest place of safety or repair.
Emergency expenses
We’ll pay up to $5,000 for emergency expenses e.g. if the outboard motor on your boat has struck a log and won’t operate. This covers things like towing, securing, scuttling or sinking your boat if legally required.
Emergency travel costs
If you're stranded after your boat is lost or damaged in an incident and unable to get home, we'll pay your travel costs to get you home or pick up your boat after repairs. Limited to $500 for any one incident.
New boat after a total loss for boats less than 2 years old
If your boat hull, motor or trailer is a write off and is less than 2 years old, we’ll pay the costs to replace it with a new one of the same, or similar, model or specification.
Rescue expenses
If you and your boat are lost and missing we pay the search and rescue fees, up to $5,000, charged by a government maritime rescue service or organisation. It doesn’t include ambulance or medical costs.
Boat contents
We’ll pay up to $5,000 for boat contents, owned by you and your family, when they’re on your boat or locked in a fully enclosed room, shed, garage or vehicle. Boat contents includes things like:
- portable fuel tanks (excluding fuel), barbecues and gas bottles
- clothing, bedding, unfixed furniture, cooking appliances and portable refrigeration
- fishing rods and tackle, diving equipment and water-skiing gear (when not in use)
- maps, charts, tide and weather guides.
It doesn’t include personal belongings like jewellery, mobile phones, laptops or cameras.
Hull inspection
When your boat has run aground, even if no loss or damage has occurred to your boat, we’ll pay reasonable costs up to $1,000 to inspect your boat hull.
Sinking
Your boat hull and motor will be covered if you suffer accidental loss or damage as a result of sinking.
Stranding
You’ll be covered if you become stranded at sea or your boat runs aground providing it was accidental and not deliberate.
Collision and impact
If you’re involved in a collision with a boat or object you’ll be covered for loss and damage to your boat hull, motor and trailer so long as it wasn’t a deliberate act.
Storm (including cyclone)
We cover you for accidental loss or damage caused by a storm (including cyclone) providing you’ve had your policy for 72 hours, started the policy on the same day you bought the boat, or started the policy when your previous cover expired.
Fire
Your boat, including the hull, motor and trailer, will be covered if damaged or destroyed in a fire providing the fire was not a deliberate act caused by you, a member of your family, owner, operator or person acting with your consent.
Theft
We cover theft as long as you took the minimum safety precautions to prevent it happening. This includes things like storing your boat in a fully enclosed garage for your personal use and using an anti-theft device on the trailer when in the open air.
Malicious damage
We cover damage that occurred maliciously, with intent, as opposed to by accident. For example, graffiti or vandals damaging your boat.

Personal property
Covers accidental damage and loss up to $500 to personal items like your mobile phone, laptop or clothing stored in a secure compartment on your motorcycle. It doesn’t include cash, jewellery, tools and other items used for work.
Hire car after theft for up to 21 days
After theft of your motorcycle, we will arrange and pay the reasonable hire cost of a car that meets your needs, using our provider (but only if our provider has a car available, and is within a reasonable distance of your location).
If there is no hire car that meets your needs available from one of our providers within a reasonable distance of your location, then we will pay you the reasonable cost you incur:
- in hiring a car that meets your transport needs; or
- in arranging alternative transport.

Temporary accommodation
If your caravan cannot be lived in we’ll pay up to $150 per day for:
- up to 30 days if the caravan is your usual home
- up to 14 days if you were living in the caravan more than 100 km away from your usual home
- up to 3 days if you were living in the caravan within 100 km of your usual home.
We will also pay up to $300 in total to accommodate any domestic pet travelling with you.
Vet expenses
If your domestic pet is injured after being hit by a vehicle we’ll pay the veterinary expenses, up to $500 as long as the pet was travelling or living in your caravan.

Provides up to $20 million to pay compensation for loss or damage to another person's vehicle or property caused by your caravan if you or someone you authorise is driving.

After theft of your motorcycle, we will arrange and pay the reasonable hire cost of a car that meets your needs, using our provider (but only if our provider has a car available, and is within a reasonable distance of your location).
If there is no hire car that meets your needs available from one of our providers within a reasonable distance of your location, then we will pay you the reasonable cost you incur:
- in hiring a car that meets your transport needs; or
- in arranging alternative transport.

If your caravan cannot be lived in we’ll pay up to $150 per day for:
- up to 30 days if the caravan is your usual home
- up to 14 days if you were living in the caravan more than 100 km away from your usual home

We will also pay up to $300 in total to accommodate any domestic pet travelling with you.
Vet expenses

Unlimited days hire car
If your claim's been accepted and your car can't be driven, is stolen or is being repaired, we can arrange and pay for the reasonable cost of a hire car, up to $90 per day, that's a similar make and model to yours until yours is returned to you or your claim is settled. We'll also insure the hire car against accidental loss and damage.

Windscreen and window glass cover
If your windscreen or window glass, including sun roof, is the only damage sustained we'll replace or repair the damage. Includes one excess free claim per year.

This is the amount you insure your motorcycle for.
Included Contents cover
Covers items you own or are legally responsible for when they are in your caravan, annexe or in your garden shed if you have on-site only cover.
Contents are things like your fridge and other portable household electrical appliances, clothing, laptops, cameras, jewellery, fishing equipment and bicycles. It doesn’t include things like your mobile phone, or tent.

Motor burnout
Covers motors in household equipment and appliances under 15 years old if they burnout due to an electrical current in your caravan or annexe. This includes the motor in things like your fridge and air conditioning.
New boat replacement
If your boat hull, motor or trailer is a write off and is less than 2 years old, we’ll pay the costs to replace it with a new one of the same, or similar, model or specification.
New caravan after a total loss for caravans less than 2 years old
If you're the first owner of the caravan and your claim is accepted as a total loss in the first two years of registration, we'll replace it with a brand new caravan of the same make and model (or similar make and model if the same isn't available).
New motorcycle after a total loss for motorcycles less than 2 years old
If your motorcycle claim is accepted as a total loss within the first two years of registration, we'll replace it with a new motorcycle of the same make and model (or similar make and model if the same is not available), providing you're the first registered owner.
Personal property
Covers accidental damage and loss up to $500 to personal items like your mobile phone, laptop or clothing stored in a secure compartment on your motorcycle. It doesn’t include cash, jewellery, tools and other items used for work.
Hire car after theft for up to 21 days
After theft of your motorcycle, we will arrange and pay the reasonable hire cost of a car that meets your needs, using our provider (but only if our provider has a car available, and is within a reasonable distance of your location).
If there is no hire car that meets your needs available from one of our providers within a reasonable distance of your location, then we will pay you the reasonable cost you incur:
- in hiring a car that meets your transport needs; or
- in arranging alternative transport.

Temporary accommodation
If your caravan cannot be lived in we’ll pay up to $150 per day for:
- up to 30 days if the caravan is your usual home
- up to 14 days if you were living in the caravan more than 100 km away from your usual home
- up to 3 days if you were living in the caravan within 100 km of your usual home.
We will also pay up to $300 in total to accommodate any domestic pet travelling with you.
Vet expenses
If your domestic pet is injured after being hit by a vehicle we’ll pay the veterinary expenses, up to $500 as long as the pet was travelling or living in your caravan.

Provides up to $20 million to pay compensation for loss or damage to another person's vehicle or property caused by your caravan if you or someone you authorise is driving.

Increased contents cover
With GIO Caravan Insurance, your contents are covered up to $1,000 as standard (sub-limits apply). You can increase the amount covered for your contents by adding this optional cover.

Note: the reference to 'caravan' means the trailer or horse float which you have insured.
Accidental Loss or Damage
We'll cover you for accidental loss or damage from incidents such as hail, storm, flood, fire, theft, collision and impact.
A no claim bonus is a discount that rewards you for your good claims history. For every year that you don't make an excess payable claim, we'll give you a discount on next year's premium up to a maximum of 25%.
Legal liability cover
Provides up to $10 million to pay compensation for death or injury to other people, or damage to their property. For example, if someone's injured falling over on your boat, which you’re held legally liable for, we cover money paid to the victim as compensation including all associated legal costs up to $10 million.
Salvage and removal costs
If you’re legally liable for the costs of salvaging or removing your stranded, sunk or burnt boat, we’ll pay the reasonable costs including legal fees that we’ve agreed to pay, up to $10 million, to salvage and remove it.
Substitute boat insurance
Gives automatic third party insurance for a substitute boat provided to you for up to 14 days when yours is with a repairer.
Pollution by oil, fuel or waste
Covers costs to deal with accidental pollution from your boat that you’re found legally liable for, up to $250,000, including legal costs.
Fatal injury
If your boat suffers loss or damage and you or the operator of your boat is killed we’ll pay $5,000 to the executor of one person’s estate.
Road towing costs
When your boat needs to be repaired, we pay the reasonable costs, up to $1,000, of towing your boat by road, to the nearest place of safety or repair.
Emergency expenses
We’ll pay up to $5,000 for emergency expenses e.g. if the outboard motor on your boat has struck a log and won’t operate. This covers things like towing, securing, scuttling or sinking your boat if legally required.
Emergency travel costs
If you're stranded after your boat is lost or damaged in an incident and unable to get home, we'll pay your travel costs to get you home or pick up your boat after repairs. Limited to $500 for any one incident.

Rescue expenses
If you and your boat are lost and missing we pay the search and rescue fees, up to $5,000, charged by a government maritime rescue service or organisation. It doesn’t include ambulance or medical costs.
Boat contents
We’ll pay up to $5,000 for boat contents, owned by you and your family, when they’re on your boat or locked in a fully enclosed room, shed, garage or vehicle. Boat contents includes things like:
- portable fuel tanks (excluding fuel), barbecues and gas bottles
- clothing, bedding, unfixed furniture, cooking appliances and portable refrigeration
- fishing rods and tackle, diving equipment and water-skiing gear (when not in use)
- maps, charts, tide and weather guides.
It doesn’t include personal belongings like jewellery, mobile phones, laptops or cameras.
Hull inspection
When your boat has run aground, even if no loss or damage has occurred to your boat, we’ll pay reasonable costs up to $1,000 to inspect your boat hull.
Sinking
Your boat hull and motor will be covered if you suffer accidental loss or damage as a result of sinking.
Stranding
You’ll be covered if you become stranded at sea or your boat runs aground providing it was accidental and not deliberate.
Collision and impact
If you’re involved in a collision with a boat or object you’ll be covered for loss and damage to your boat hull, motor and trailer so long as it wasn’t a deliberate act.
Storm (including cyclone)
We cover you for accidental loss or damage caused by a storm (including cyclone) providing you’ve had your policy for 72 hours, started the policy on the same day you bought the boat, or started the policy when your previous cover expired.
Fire
Your boat, including the hull, motor and trailer, will be covered if damaged or destroyed in a fire providing the fire was not a deliberate act caused by you, a member of your family, owner, operator or person acting with your consent.
Theft
We cover theft as long as you took the minimum safety precautions to prevent it happening. This includes things like storing your boat in a fully enclosed garage for your personal use and using an anti-theft device on the trailer when in the open air.

We cover damage that occurred maliciously, with intent, as opposed to by accident. For example, graffiti or vandals damaging your boat.
Water-skier’s liability
Provides up to $10 million cover when your boat is towing a person or object for water skiing. Includes cover for injury and death to people and damage caused to property.
Lay-up period
If your boat’s not in use all year, you’ll pay a reduced premium during the nominated months and we’ll reduce your cover to theft and accidental loss or damage.
Additional cover for boat contents
Cover for accidental loss and damage, including theft, of your boat’s contents whether they’re on your boat or in a locked space like a garage or vehicle.
Cover for sailing boats when racing
Add this on for comprehensive cover even when competing in a sailing race of up to 100 nautical miles.
