Option to choose your own repairer

You can leave it with GIO to take care of everything when arranging for the repair of your car. However, if you prefer to, you can choose your own repairer to complete the job.

If you do this, you need to obtain a quote from your repairer. After you obtain a quote from your repairer, we will need to assess your car at one of our preferred repairers. The repairs will be authorised if your repairer’s assessed quote meets industry standards and will result in your car being repaired safely and in a cost effective manner.

Our lifetime repair guarantee applies even if you choose your own repairer, as long as we authorise the repairs.

Hire car after a not at fault incident

Hire car after a no fault accident (for unlimited days) where you can provide the name, address and registration details of the other driver who was at fault.

Please note: A hire car cannot be used by learner drivers. Terms and conditions apply see the PDS for full details.

Malicious damage

A malicious act is something that is done on purpose, with intent, as opposed to by accident. This includes things like graffiti or key marks on your car.

$20 million legal liability

Provides you, or someone you authorise to drive your car, with up to $20 million to pay compensation and the associated legal costs for loss or damage your car causes to another person's vehicle or property.

21 days car hire after an event

If your car can’t be safely driven, is being repaired or has been stolen, and your claim is accepted, we can arrange and pay for the reasonable costs of a similar make or model hire car for up to 21 days. This means you’ll be back on the road in no time — even if your car isn’t. When we arrange the hire car for you, we also insure the hire car against accidental loss and damage, so you’ll know you’re covered (your normal excesses apply in the event of a claim involving the hire car).

Windscreen and window glass cover

(One excess-free claim per year)

Know that if your windscreen or window glass, including sun roof, is the only damage sustained, we’ll replace it or repair the damage without the you having to pay an excess. We provide one excess-free claim during the period of insurance. Where there is a chipped windscreen that hasn’t cracked, and can be safely repaired, we’ll also cover the cost of one repair — without you losing your one excess-free claim.

Roadside Assist

24/7 roadside assistance when you need it most.

Did you know you can add optional cover Roadside Assist to your Platinum or Comprehensive Car Insurance policy? For an additional premium, we’ll help with flat tyres, flat batteries, emergency fuel, and more. There is no cover for GIO Roadside Assist during the first 24 hours of adding the cover. GIO Roadside Assist Terms and Conditions apply.

Market Value

You can choose to insure your car for market value rather than a specified amount, if we agree. This option may reduce your premium. Except for the terms of this optional cover, the cover provided by your policy otherwise remains the same. 

Note: If you select this optional cover, it cannot be removed from the policy during the period of insurance.

Optional covers for added protection 

Optional cover benefits are subject to the terms, conditions, limits, and exclusions of the insurance policy. You can’t add optional covers after an incident and have damage or loss covered for that same incident. Optional covers must be added to your policy before the incident you’re claiming for. Please refer to the PDS for more information.
