What does Fire, Theft and Third Party Property Damage Insurance cover?

Third Party Car Insurance can provide cover if you need to pay for damage your car causes to someone else’s vehicle or property. For an additional premium, it can also include cover for loss or damage to your car caused by fire or theft.

Hire car

After theft of your car that is covered by your policy, we'll arrange and pay the reasonable cost of a hire car that meets your transport needs for up to  21 days. We’ll use our provider, but if there is no hire car that meets your transport needs available within a reasonable distance of your location, we can cover reasonable hire car or alternative transport costs.

Limits, terms and conditions apply, see the PDS for full details.

Tools of trade cover

When your car is damaged in an incident related to fire, we’ll cover loss or damage to materials or equipment that you use in your current business, trade or profession (not including mobile phones or cash) up to a total of $1,500.

When your car is stolen and we’ve accepted your claim, we’ll also cover your tools of trade for theft up to a total of $1,500 but only if the tools are in your locked car or in a locked tool box that is fitted to your car.

To claim, you must have told us your car is used for business and this is shown on your certificate of insurance. You must also be registered for GST and entitled to claim an input tax credit.

Towing and storage costs

When your car is damaged in an incident and is not roadworthy, safe to drive or needs to be held in storage, we cover the cost of one tow to get your car from the scene of the incident to either our nearest repairer, another location nominated or agreed by us, or to store your car.

After claims expenses

Covers reasonable costs for emergency repairs, emergency accommodation & personal property. Up to a total limit per incident of $1,000.

When your car is stolen or damaged in an incident covered by your policy, we also cover:

  • Reasonable costs for emergency repairs to make your car roadworthy or safe in order to get your car to your destination (e.g. to a repairer or to your home);
  • Reasonable emergency accommodation costs if your car is not roadworthy or safe to drive and you are more than 100km from your home;
  • Accidental loss or damage to your personal property (e.g. clothing, electronic and telecommunication devices) in the car at the time of the incident.

$20 million legal liability

Provides you, or someone you authorise to drive your car, with up to $20 million to pay compensation and the associated legal costs for loss or damage your car causes to another person's vehicle or property.

Damage by uninsured drivers at fault

If a vehicle driven by an uninsured driver damages your car, and the driver of your car didn't contribute to the accident (this means that the other driver was entirely at fault), and you can provide us with the name, address and registration details of the person at fault, you'll be covered for reasonable costs of repair to your car, but no more than $5,000 for any one incident.
