If life happens and you miss a monthly instalment, your policy won’t be cancelled right away. There are steps you can take to keep your policy active.

Pay a missed instalment
You can easily resolve payment issues for Home, Car and Landlord Insurance in the GIO App, or online using My Account by making a manual payment.

Log in
Select ‘Pay Now’ on the reminder banner, either within My Account or in the GIO App.

Make a payment
Fill out your payment details in the pop-up window.
There won’t be a ‘Pay Now’ button available if you have missed the window to make a one-off payment online or if you have more than one unpaid instalment. To ensure your payments stay up to date on your policy, please contact us.
You won’t be able to make a manual payment for the five business days after a direct debit attempt. If the payment still doesn’t work outside of this timeframe, you may need to update your payment details.
Need to update payment details?
You can easily update your payment details via My Account. Just log in and select ‘Change Payment Details’
Will my policy be cancelled?
If a monthly instalment is overdue, we will let you know and we can cancel your policy:
- by giving you at least 14 days advance notice; or
- without advance notice, once the instalment is one month late.
We'll notify you of an overdue payment.

Yes, depending on your level of cover, you may be able to vary your excess. The more you increase your excess, the lower your premium. But, know that it could mean paying more in the event of a claim.

No, GIO does not charge any fees for credit card payments.
With GIO you can pay your insurance premium annually or monthly. It costs more to pay in monthly instalments than annually. When you renew your policy, you can choose to change your payment frequency from annually to monthly. If you would like to change from monthly to annual payments, you can also do that at renewal online or at any time by calling us on 13 10 10.
We only offer monthly direct debit from either a bank account or credit card. BPAY is available for the purchase and renewal of annual Car, Home, Motorcycle, Caravan and Boat policies.
If your personal insurance policy has already been added to your GIO Online Services account, you can see if it’s active by selecting ‘View policy’. If you haven’t added your policy into your account, you’ll need to do so by clicking ‘Add policy’ and entering your policy details.
