What is the CTP Insurance premium?

Your insurance premium is the amount you pay for your policy. It’s calculated using a range of factors, and it can be different for each person. Some of the things we consider include: vehicle details – such as the make, model, vehicle age, and insurance history of the vehicle , driver history – including the youngest driver’s age, driving record, previous claims and any demerit points, region – the area in which the vehicle is primarily garaged and used, the length of cover (6 or 12 months), and if the vehicle is registered for private or business use. As these factors change, your premium may also change. This isn’t a full list, and the factors we use may change over time. Each factor can affect your premium differently, which is why your premium might change when you renew your policy. Other things that can influence your premium include (but are not limited to): the cost of claims (for example, medical and health care services) and what we expect to pay in the future, our business costs, and conditions in the insurance market. To obtain a CTP Green Slip, which is required to register your vehicle, your total premium also includes GST and the Fund Levy.

What is the Fund levy?

The amount you pay for your CTP Green Slip includes your Premium, GST and Fund Levy. The Fund Levy covers initial ambulance and hospital fees, along with longer term treatment and care for people with severe injuries resulting from motor vehicle crashes. Several factors can affect the price of your policy even if your details haven’t changed, including but not limited to the age of your car, the youngest listed driver and the costs of potential future claims as well as an insurer’s operational costs. Each year, prices are also influenced by changes in government levies and the rising cost of medical and care services for people injured in motor vehicle crashes. How can I reduce my CTP insurance premium?

Premiums cannot be discounted, and premium bands are approved by SIRA. To ensure you have the right premium, you should check that your vehicle and driver details are up to date. Safe driving where you avoid demerit points and at fault accidents may result in lower premiums.

How long does it take for my CTP Green Slip to go through to TfNSW?

It depends on the method you use to pay for your CTP Green Slip . If you pay online, by phone, or at a GIO Agency, it will be sent to TfNSW within an hour of payment. If you pay at an Australian Post Office, it will take up to 2 business days for payment to reach TfNSW.

Can I renew my Green Slip term to 6 months?

If you have a light vehicle (i.e. vehicles with GVM less than 4.5 tonnes), you can choose to insure and register for either a 6 month or 12 month term. If you want a 6 month term, both the Green Slip and Registration need to be paid or completed within 21 days of the registration due date. This is called the ‘Use-by’ date and is shown on the Green Slip. If the Green Slip ‘Use-by’ date has expired (i.e. exceeded 21 days), then you can only register for a 12-month period, unless there are ‘extenuating circumstances’ for us to accept the late payment. Payment of a Green Slip online, by phone or at a GIO agency will result in an eGreen slip being sent to TfNSW immediately. Payment at a post office will take up to 2 business days for the eGreen Slip to reach TfNSW.
