Compulsory Third Party insurance (CTP)

Provides cover for injuries caused to someone by your vehicle in an at fault accident.

What is CTP Insurance ACT?

Compulsory Third Party (CTP) Personal Injury insurance, provides protection to the vehicle owner and ‘at fault’ driver, against compensation claims from people injured in a motor accident.

CTP is required by all vehicle owners in order to register their vehicles in the ACT.

Compulsory Third Party insurance (CTP) forms part of the payment made to Access Canberra to register or renew the registration of your vehicle in the ACT.

To choose GIO as your CTP insurer simply select GIO on your motor registration. 


Passenger Vehicle

Ute and Van – goods vehicle with GVM under 4.5T

Motorcycle under 300cc

Motorcycle 300 to 600cc

Motorcycle above 600cc

GIO provides Driver Cover Plus with your ACT CTP insurance. Driver Cover Plus provides cover for specific serious injury benefits for eligible drivers.

Drivers under 25 are not eligible unless the vehicle is comprehensively insured with GIO.
