If we authorise the repairs, we guarantee the quality of the materials and workmanship for the life of the car. If a defect arises as a result of faulty materials or workmanship, even if you no longer own it, we'll rectify the problem.
Choice of repairer
We can arrange the repair of your car, or you can choose your own repairer. Our lifetime repair guarantee applies even if you choose your repairer, as long as we authorise the repairs.

$20 million legal liability cover
Provides you, or someone you authorise to drive your car, with up to $20 million to pay compensation and the associated legal costs for loss or damage your car causes to another person's vehicle or property.
Accidental loss or damage cover
We'll cover you for accidental loss or damage from incidents such as hail, storm, flood, fire, theft, collision and impact.
Malicious damage or vandalism cover
A malicious act is something that is done on purpose, with intent, as opposed to by accident. This includes things like graffiti or key marks on your car.
Cover for damage by uninsured drivers
If a vehicle driven by an uninsured driver damages your car and we agree you're not at fault, you'll be covered providing you give us the name, address and registration details of the other driver and vehicle.
Lifetime new car replacement
If your car's written off or stolen, we'll replace it with a brand new car of the same make and model, if available, no matter how old it gets, providing you're the first registered owner of the car and it's been insured continuously with us within 13 months of the purchase.
2 year new car replacement
If your car's written off or stolen within the first two years of registration, we'll replace it with a brand new car of the same make and model, if available, providing you're the first registered owner of the car. Not applicable to GIO Platinum customers who qualify for lifetime new car replacement instead.
Emergency travel, accommodation and repairs
If your car's stolen or damaged in an incident, we'll pay reasonable costs for emergency repairs and if the incident was more than 100 km from home we'll also pay travel and accommodation costs if the car's not roadworthy or safe to drive.
Towing and storage costs
If your car's not safe to drive, we'll pay for it to be towed to our nearest assessment centre or repair facility, or another location agreed by us, plus any storage costs incurred between the time your claim is lodged and settled.
Taxi and transport cover
If you can safely drive to a GIO assessment centre or repair facility following an approved claim, we'll pay the reasonable taxi costs to your home or work and then back again once the repairs are complete.
Personal property in your car
Provides up to $500 if personal items, for example your mobile phone, laptop or clothing, are lost or damaged in an incident. It doesn't include things like cash, business items and tools, apart from those supplied by the car manufacturer.
Locks and keys
If your car keys are stolen, we cover up to $1,000 towards the cost of replacing the keys and recoding your locks.
Third party property damage for caravans and trailers
Covers damage your caravan or trailer causes to another person's vehicle or property when being towed by your car.
Two wheel trailer cover
Provides up to $1,000 for accidental loss or damage, including theft, while it's attached to your car.
GIO Platinum hire car
If your car can't be driven, is being repaired or is stolen, and your claim's accepted, we can arrange and pay for the reasonable cost of a hire car, up to $90 per day, that's a similar make and model to yours until yours is returned to you or your claim is settled. We'll also insure the hire car against accidental loss and damage.
Hire car after theft
If your car has been stolen, we can arrange and pay for the reasonable costs of a compact hire car. We'll also insure the hire car against accidental loss and damage.
7 day repair guarantee - hire car
If your car isn't repaired within 7 calendar days of being driven to our assessment centre, we can arrange and pay for the reasonable costs of a compact hire car from day 8. We'll also insure the hire car against accidental loss and damage. Flood and hail damage claims excluded.
Depending on which level of cover you choose these may be automatically included or available to add on to your policy for an extra premium.
14 days hire car after an event
If your car can't be driven, is being repaired or is stolen, and your claim's accepted, we can arrange and pay for the reasonable costs of a compact hire car. We'll also insure the hire car against accidental loss and damage.
Windscreen and window glass replacement
If your windscreen or window glass, including sun roof, is the only damage sustained we'll replace it or repair the damage. Includes one excess free claim during the period of your insurance.
