What’s covered

It’s important to know what you are covered for.

Insured events

What's covered - Events

Flood

‘Flood’ means the covering of normally dry land by water that has escaped or been released from the normal confines of a lake, dam, river. We do not cover floods in the first 72 hours of cover, and there are some things we don’t cover loss or damage to including: retaining walls, sea walls, garden borders and free-standing outdoor walls. Read the PDS for full details.

Storm or storm surge

Storm means a storm, cyclone, or severe atmospheric disturbance. It can be accompanied by strong winds, rain, lightning, hail, snow, or dust.

Storm surge means a rush of water onshore associated with a low-pressure system and caused by strong winds pushing on the ocean’s surface. It does not include actions or movement of the sea. The loss or damage caused by storm surge must happen at the same time as the other insured damage caused by storm – read page 44 of the PDS for more information.

We do not cover storm or storm surge in the first 72 hours of cover. Read the PDS for full details.

Lightning

We cover loss or damage caused by lightning (including a power surge caused by lightning), provided that a qualified repairer gives written confirmation to show lightning as the cause of loss or damage and the Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology has a record of lightning in the area.

We don’t provide cover for loss or damage caused by power failure or surges by your power provider – please read page 45 of the PDS for more information.

Fire (including bushfire)

Fire means burning with flames. We provide cover for loss or damage from heat, ash, soot, and smoke that is the direct result of a fire within 100 metres of the insured address. We don’t cover loss or damage from things like arcing, scorching or cigarette burns. If there is a bushfire in your area, we also cover the costs of replacing water in any tank, container, pool, spa, or other water storage vessel where the water has been used to limit the spread of bushfires at your address, and the cost of cleaning any fire retardant off your home. The most we will pay under Extra Costs cover is $1,000 for any one incident, read page 46 of the PDS for more information. We don’t provide cover for bushfires in the first 72 hours of your policy.

Earthquake and Tsunami

We cover damage caused in the first 72 hours after an earthquake or tsunami. A tsunami is not considered an action or movement of the sea.

Theft or burglary

Theft or burglary occurs when someone enters the insured address without your consent and steals or intends to steal items. We don't cover loss or damage caused by anyone living at the insured address, and there are other exclusions so please read the PDS for full details.

Impact

We cover damage caused by an impact from a falling tree, an object falling from a car and even space debris at the insured address. However, we don’t provide cover for loss or damage caused by trees being lopped, felled or transplanted by you – read page 49 of the PDS for more information.

Escape of liquid

We cover damage caused by liquid leaking, overflowing or bursting from white goods, fixed pipes and drains, fixed tanks, swimming pools or waterbeds. We don’t provide cover for loss or damage caused by a gradual process of liquid leaking, wear and tear, mould and rot nor cover damage caused by liquid leaking from a portable container or liquid leaking from showers – refer to pages 47 and 48 of the PDS for more information.

These are summaries only, and limits, conditions and exclusions apply. For more info refer to the PDS.
