Yes, you do, but the type of hire car will depend on your level of cover and type of claim you make.

If you have GIO Comprehensive or Fire, Theft and Third Party Property Damage Insurance and:

  • your car is stolen, we will arrange and pay the reasonable hire cost of a car that meets your needs, or;
  • you’ve had an insured incident that’s not your fault, we’ll arrange and pay for you to have a hire car that meets your needs while your car is being repaired. This is also applicable if you are hit by a uninsured motorist and you have Third Party Damage cover.

You can also purchase optional Hire Car cover after an event when you have a GIO Comprehensive cover. This entitles you to cover for a ‘similar make or model’ hire car for up to 21 days (equalling up to $75/day).

When you hold GIO Platinum, you are automatically covered for unlimited hire of a ‘similar make or model’ hire car (up to $100/day) no matter who is at fault.

Please note: You may not be able to use the hire car for ridesharing purposes.

Please note: A hire car cannot be used by learner drivers or drivers under 25.

Please see the PDS for full details.
