It is your responsibility to assist your injured worker with seeking first aid or medical treatment for their injury or illness.
The injured worker is entitled to nominate their own treating doctor or medical practitioner who will be responsible for a medical assessment of their injury, providing them with a medical certificate and medical treatment if required.
Once an injury or work related illness has occurred you must notify GIO as soon as you become aware of it. Please call us on 13 10 10 to report an injury.
You are also required by law to ensure you keep track of work-related injuries and illnesses and acknowledge this in writing to the worker.
If an employee suffers a reportable accident you must notify WorkSafe WA immediately. Please refer to the WorkSafe WA website for more information on how to report an incident, including the types of injuries that must be reported and the legal requirements for the reporting of accidents.
To notify GIO of a new claim you simply need to provide your contact details, your workers compensation policy number, the worker's name, address and date of birth, the treating doctor’s name (if known) and details of the incident.

GIO will respond, in writing, within 14 days of the claim being lodged. We encourage you to maintain contact with your injured worker and GIO to ensure all parties work together to achieve a successful outcome.
