At GIO, we care about your business and we're here to provide insurance protection and claims response should a burglary occur. Read the burglary tips below to prepare your business for the unexpected.


Burglary Prevention

  • Ensure your business premises are fitted with a security alarm system.
  • If your business is alarmed install highly visible warning signage.
  • Consider installing movement sensors for light activation after hours.
  • Ensure windows and doors are clearly visible from outside the premises and not obscured from view.
  • Regularly test internal and external security lights, windows and door locks.
  • Train staff on open and lock-up procedures, Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) and banking protocols.
  • If staff do banking they should travel to the closest bank by alternating routes and times and use different bags to carry any money.

Should a Burglary Occur

  • In the case of a suspected burglary, do not enter the business. Call 000 as intruders may still be inside.
  • Ensure staff remain calm and away from harm.
  • Do not confront or attack intruders.

After a Burglary

  • Only enter the property if it is safe to do so.
  • Secure your business.
  • Review inventory and note all items missing.
  • Call GIO Claims on 13 14 46 and provide full details of the incident.
