If you've held your Maximum No Claim Discount (NCD) / Rating 1 for 12 months with any insurer and haven't made an at-fault claim in the last 2 years, switch to GIO Comprehensive Car Insurance and we'll protect it for life. This means that while you are comprehensively insured with us your Maximum NCD/Rating 1 will not be reduced.

A GIO Comprehensive Car Insurance policy provides the following additional features and benefits.


  • Emergency travel and accommodation

    We'll pay up to $500 for emergency travel and accommodation if the incident was more than 100 km from your home and the car is not roadworthy or safe to drive.
  • Hire car after theft for up to 14 days

    We'll arrange and pay for a 'small' category hire car for up to 14 days if your car is stolen and either not found or is found but is not driveable. You are responsible for running costs and extras of the hire car including any deposit or upgrade.
  • Emergency repairs

    We'll pay up to $500 if you need emergency repairs so you can get your car to your destination; (eg. to a Repairer or to your home) after an incident.
  • No excess to pay if we agree you were not at fault

    You will pay no excess if you can provide the name and address of the driver at fault or the registration details of the other vehicle.
  • Personal property covered up to $500

    We'll cover up to $150 per item to a total of $500 for your personal property if damaged or stolen, as a result of your car being damaged in an incident or stolen, and we pay your claim for that damage/theft.
  • Replacement of locks and stolen keys

    If your car keys are stolen we will pay up to $1,000 to replace the keys and/or recoding your car's locks.
  • Towing and storage costs after an incident

    We'll pay for towing your car to our nearest Assessing Centre or repair facility, or another location agreed to by us if your car is not roadworthy or safe to drive. We will also pay for storing your car after your claim is lodged until your claim is settled.

    Save up to 60% on your GIO comprehensive car insurance as a reward for being a good driver without making claims that affect your No Claim Discount/Rating.

  • Seniors Card discount

    GIO offers Seniors Card holders a discount of at least 5% off their comprehensive car insurance.
  • Family discount

    If you are under 26 years of age and your parents have comprehensive car insurance with GIO on a maximum NCD and have made no at fault claims in the past 12 months, simply provide us with your parent's policy number and you could be eligible to receive a 60% (65% in VIC) discount off your own GIO comprehensive car insurance policy where you have not made an at fault claim in the past 5 years.
  • Named driver option

    By restricting your cover to a maximum of 2 drivers over 30 years of age, you could earn a further discount off your premium, however, cover for accidental loss or damage to your car or to other people's property will be limited to these listed drivers.
  • Increase your excess

    By increasing your excess within the range of excess amounts we offer, you can reduce your premium.

Optional Covers

GIO also offers a range of optional covers with our comprehensive cover that may be available to you depending on your circumstances.

 
  • No Claim Discount (NCD) / Rating protection

    By choosing to have rating protection added to your policy, your NCD/Rating will not be affected even if you make an 'at fault' claim.
  • Windscreen cover

    If the windscreen or window glass of your car is damaged, we'll pay for the repair or replacement and you won't have to pay the excess. Cover is limited to one claim in an insurance period.
  • Hire car option

    If your car is damaged in an incident or not found after being stolen, GIO will arrange and pay the costs for a small category hire car for up to 14 days. You can also choose to upgrade to a larger category car by paying the difference. You are responsible for all running costs and extras of the hire car including any deposit required.
  • Named driver
